A love lost, greed and deception? A perfect night at the opera!
Our double-bill of Puccini’s masterpieces, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi has it all. Featuring the soaring melodies of Puccini that can tug at your heartstrings, Suor Angelica tells the story of a young woman sent to a convent as possible penance for a misdeed. The unexpected arrival of her aunt sets in motion a series of events that ultimately result in tragedy, forgiveness and peace.
As Puccini’s only comedy, Gianni Schicchi has a cast of “loving” relatives all expecting to inherit vast wealth after their patriarch, Buoso Donati, has passed. When they realize that all the riches have been bequeathed to a monastery, they call on the only man that can help them cheat their way back into good fortune -- Gianni Schicchi!
Language: Sung in Italian with English supertitles projected above the stage to fully enjoy the drama and the laughs.
Running time: a little over 2 hours
Fully staged with orchestra and featuring student artists selected from nationwide auditions attending the Bay View Music Festival’s summer voice program.
